Dr. Rick Surrency, Superintendent, shared the following:

"We appreciate the work of our school and district administrators to go above and beyond their regular duties to manage our Putnam County shelters. Many of our support staff have been at schools today preparing the shelters with supplies and equipment that may be needed. The Putnam County School District is committed to working with other agencies to help provide safety for our community members during a dangerous weather event."

"Impacts of these storms affect students and families far beyond the curriculum. PCSD is committed to supporting our students, staff, and community in every way possible before, during, and after this storm incident. We appreciate the cooperation of the EOC officials who work with us to create the least amount of disruptions possible to our school operations. We want to thank our families in advance for their patience as we work to bring school services back to the highest level possible for our students."

PCSD principals, assistant principals, and other district administrators will manage all shelters including opening, closing, and round the clock registration and support. PCSD Food Service teams provide three daily meals, snacks, and beverages. PCSD custodial and maintenance staff will be at each shelter assisting and maintaining the facilities for the duration of the storm. When available, Red Cross staff assist at the shelters. Law enforcement officers are also assigned to each shelter. The Department of Health supports those residents who come to the special needs shelter at Kelley Smith.
